Hailing from the City of Angels, Mark Machada aka Mister Cartoon has been a body art mainstay among the most high-profile clients in the music industry. After taking his first professional art commission at the age of 12, Mark has developed a staggering client list that includes the likes of industry juggernauts such as Fat Joe, Paul Wall, Eminem, Method Man, Big Boi, Dr. Dre, Travis Barker, 50 Cent, and Xzibit.
It’s safe to say that Mark has been an artist for quite some time — as noted, he took his first paying art job at the age of 12 and had considered himself an artist from the tender age of 8 years old. Having grown up in Los Angeles, the Mexican-American artist had a plethora of inspiration and began his artistic development airbrushing lowriders and cultural icons of southern California. His unique style is undoubtedly a product of his environment in his adoption of the Fineline Style, a tattoo style that was allegedly developed in the California penitentiary system. His work is dark, even downright morbid at times, but always brilliant in concept and execution.
For more of Mark and Mister Cartoon, make sure to check out his blog, website, and Twitter feeds. Not that Mark needs any more publicity than having his work grace the skin of some of the most visible stars in music, but we figured his work was more than worthy of a Ballista feature…especially considering his canvas rarely lends itself to self-promotion. There is no doubt that you have seen his work multiple times through various media avenues, but here it is again for your review. Cheers!
