Dan Matutina is an illustrator from the Phillipines who describes his style as a “mix of handmade & digital, clean & dirty, old & modern aesthetics.” In addition to Dan’s fantastic freelance endeavors, he also has servered as co-founder of the design agencies Ideals (a social enterprise design & communications agency) and founder of a new graphic design studio, Plus63 Design Co. The man is absolutely staying busy, and we at Ballista are all for it…his client list includes the likes of Good Magazine, Popular Mechanics, Wired (Italy), CondeNast, Nestle, and Coca-Cola.
Dan has pretty much stolen our thunder with his apt personal statement, so we’ll jump right into our interpretation of his work. It doesn’t require a keen design eye to appreciate what Dan has done — his amazing color work and tangram-esque geometries are visually stunning and equally revealing from a narrative standpoint. Some of his finished products also has a slight photograin visual treatment that adds a nostalgic air, counteracting his modern themes and furthering the intrigue in each of his pieces. Fantastic stuff.
For more of Dan’s work, please visit his website, Dribbble, and/or Twitter accounts. Mr. Matutina also has prints and swag available through his Society6 Shop, so help him out with a couple early holiday purchases for friends and family!
