Christian Ward is a freelance illustrator living and working in London. From his stereotypically drab surroundings (sorry, London) Ward produces illustrations that are frenetic and colorful. His unique graphic style draws from art noveau, 1960s fanatasy, manga, and graffiti. Ward’s illustrations demand your attention by way of their complexity and vibrant nature. This effect is achieved through a process of hand drawing and digital production.
“For me good art is very much about tension. A sense of conflict and balance between texture, colour, shape, line, space, traditional and digital.”
– Christian Ward, via Blog of Francesco Mugnai
Since 2009, Ward has been producing a comic book, Olympus, with writer Nathan Edmondson. The story revolves around the two brothers of Hellenic myth, Castor and Pollux, who have been granted immortality by Zeus and are charged with protecting and serving mankind. Transplanting Greek gods into modern, urban envrionments provides Ward with plenty of opportunities to showcase his illustrative and storytelling capabilities.
This skilled illustrator has worked for Fence Records, Silent Devil Comics, Science Skateboards, Botchit & Scarper, Viper Comics, and Murky Depths Magazine. Christian Ward has a website and MySpace page for your review.
