Alright, everyone…today is 1.11.11, which is awesome. Not only is today’s date a palindrome, the binary translation of 11111 is 31 in decimal! Not that 31 has any sort of relevance, it’s just fun to find random parallels in not-so-random occurrences. We at Ballista Magazine attempted to further the palindromic nature of today’s featuring by going live at 1:11pm CST, but were unable to deliver due to a database error (sorry!). Today’s Featured Face has nothing to do with 11111 and hails from the Great White North of Ontario, Canada: graphic designer and illustrator savant, Andrew Kolb!
An illustrator and graphic designer by trade, Andrew has compiled a fantastic library of design collateral in a variety of styles and media. His product draws heavily on humor and wit, most evident in his non-commissioned interpretation of “Telephone“, which presents the Lady Gaga hit in graphic novel form. His work maintains a modern execution but hints at a nostalgic aesthetic, which allows his work to cross cultural and stylistic boundaries with ease. We at Ballista Magazine are particularly interested in the fact that a healthy portion of Andrew’s work is not commissioned work, but personal work illustrated as gifts to friends or initiated as a doodle! We love the enthusiasm!
If you are of the opinion that this design feature left a little too much to the imagination, more of Mr. Kolb’s work can be found on his website, Twitter page, and Flickr account(s). We at Ballista Magazine wish you a merry palindrome day and encourage you to do something design-y on 1.11.11!
