Aaron Robbs is currently a designer at MailChimp. Robbs’ ability to smartly blend type, images, and textures must be a major asset for that company. Before arriving at his current post, Robbs worked for Tubatomic and Maycreate. He tackled large creative accounts at both firms, working on projects for YellaWood, Ruby Tuesday, and BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee. Prior to his professional career he studied fine arts and graphic design at The University of Tennessee at Chattanoga.
The portfolio website Robbs maintains is what initially drew our attention. The simple, grid-based layout focuses attention on the work itself by removing unnecessary backgrounds and ornamentation. This approach certainly doesn’t work in all situations, but in this case it works perfectly. Robbs’ work is really what you should be looking at.
As we already said, Robbs has a knack for layering type, images, and textures. However, he doesn’t let this skill pigeon-hole his work. In other words, he is a flexible designer. His portfolio ranges from collagey band posters, to modern corporate branding.
